Insurance Law SIG’s Fourth Transatlantic Lecture on Insurance Law

On 11 November 2021, the ELI Insurance Law SIG organised its fourth and final transatlantic lecture on insurance law, which dealt with artificial intelligence and insurance.

John Buchanan (Covington & Burling LLP, Washington D.C) delivered an introduction to the current cover situation in the US.

Michael Faure (Prof Dr, Maastricht University and Erasmus University Rotterdam) presented his views on compulsory insurance for artificial intelligence liability.

This was followed by a presentation addressing the new compensation models for liability of robots and artificial intelligence by Hans-Peter Schwintowski (Prof Dr, Humboldt University Berlin).

The lecture was concluded with remarks on cyber terrorism in cyber (re-) insurance by Franz Gromotka (Rechtsanwalt, Senior Corporate Underwriter/Legal Consultant).

The lecture series represents a transatlantic joint venture in which leading experts from Europe, North America, South America and Africa discuss fundamental questions of insurance law online. Four lectures were organised throughout 2021. More information is available here.
