Established in 1995 under Law no. 36/1995 regarding the notaries public and the notarial activity, the Bucharest Chamber of Notaries is a professional organization that brings together all notaries practicing within the jurisdiction of the Bucharest Court of Appeal. The Chamber represents the interests of notaries both institutionally and professionally by upholding legal and ethical standards, promoting transparency, and supporting professional development.

It contributes to ensuring compliance with legal provisions in notarial practice and to the development of legal doctrine through publications and studies that enhance the understanding and application of notarial law in Romania, maintaining the highest professional standards.

Beyond supporting notaries, the Chamber is also dedicated to the general public, by providing access to reliable and impartial notarial services, thereby strengthening trust in the legal system.

The Bucharest Chamber of Notaries Public manages the Register of Succession Cases, facilitating the registration and tracking of inheritance proceedings within the competence of its members. This system enables the verification of existing succession cases, maintains legal compliance, and prevents duplicate procedure.

The Chamber's Archives serve as a secure repository for notarial acts and related documents, preserving records for legal reference, issuing certified copies upon request, and guaranteeing   their availability for judicial and administrative purposes. The Archives contain both current notarial records (from 1995 to the present) and older archives of notarial deeds concluded between 1950 and 1995, ensuring the long-term preservation of important legal documents.

Additionally, the Chamber is responsible for applying the Apostille and performing Legalization of notarial documents, certifying their authenticity for international use. This applies both under the Hague Convention for member states and through legalization procedures for non-member states, facilitating the recognition of Romanian notarial documents worldwide.
