The Faculty of Economics & Business is one of the 31 constituent institutions of the University of Zagreb. Established in 1920, it holds the distinction of being the oldest higher education institution specialising in economics and business in the Republic of Croatia. The Faculty of Economics & Business proudly holds three prestigious international accreditations: EQUIS, AACSB Business accreditation (institution-level), and EFMD Programme Accreditation (for the university's Bachelor Degree in Business program).

Within the Faculty of Economics & Business, the Department of Business Law stands as one of the 18 departments. The Department of Business Law offers a wide range of compulsory and elective courses for both undergraduate and graduate students. Additionally, the department organises a specialised postgraduate program called the ‘Legal and Economic Framework of Business in the European Union’, which has been attended by fourteen generations of students. The members of the Department of Business Law are highly accomplished, being authors of numerous publications and actively involved in organising various scientific and professional conferences focusing on company law, competition law, and the law of obligations.

The Department of Business Law takes great pride in its active collaboration with the European Law Institute (ELI), the ELI Croatian Hub, the ELI Global Private Law SIG, and the ELI Business & Financial Law SIG. These collaborations have resulted in the successful organisation of seven scientific conferences in 2018, 2019, 2020, 2022, and 2023. Six members of the Department of Business Law are ELI Fellows: Professor Hana Horak, Professor Zvonimir Slakoper, Associate Professor Kosjenka Dumančić, Assistant Professor Ivan Tot, Assistant Professor Dominik Vuletić, and Senior Teaching and Research Assistant Kristijan Poljanec. Since May 2020, Assistant Professor Ivan Tot, the current Head of the Department of Business Law, has served as one of the Co-Chairs of the ELI Croatian Hub. In September 2021, he was elected as a member of the ELI Council. The Advisory Board of the ELI Croatian Hub includes Professor Hana Horak and Professor Zvonimir Slakoper.
