The European Centre for Dispute Resolution was founded in 2012 by Katarina Kresal, former Interior Minister for the Republic of Slovenia. Many services are offered by the Centre, including mediation, neutral evaluation and arbitration. The aim of the Centre, which is based in the Slovenian capital Ljubljana, is to offer cost-effective prevention, management and early resolution of disputes. The Presidents, currently Mrs. Katarina Kresal and Mr. Aleš Zalar, former Minister of Justice, are joined by a Director and Council to form the main governing bodies of the Institute. In addition, a Council for Legal Questions and a Council for Ethical Questions are available to provide expert advice on issues arising as part of the Centre’s substantive work.
