Croatian Hub Held the 13th Webinar in its Webinar Series

15.03.2022

On 15 March 2022, the ELI Croatian Hub held its 13th webinar in a series of webinars organised to contribute to discussions on current ELI projects and recent developments in Croatian, comparative, and EU law. The webinar gathered sixty participants from Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and North Macedonia.

The webinar began with a welcome address from Dr Ivan Tot (ELI Croatian Hub Co-Chair; Assistant Professor at the University of Zagreb, Faculty of Economics and Business) who briefly introduced participants to the work of ELI in the area of digital law and presented the four current ELI projects under the ‘Law and Governance for the Digital Age’ umbrella.

The introduction was followed by a lecture on ‘Non-Fungible Tokens as Financial Instruments’, delivered by Dr Tomislav Jakšić (Associate Professor of Commercial and Company Law at the University of Zagreb, Faculty of Law). Dr Jakšić gave a brief introduction to the notion of a token as a unique and indivisible electronic record in a digital database which is based on the use of DLT (distributed ledger technology) and blockchain technology. The scope of the lecture was limited to investment tokens, trading of investment tokens on secondary markets and whether investment tokens can be legally qualified as transferrable security and financial instrument.

The lecture was followed by a lively Q&A session.

The next ELI Croatian Hub webinar will be held on 12 April 2022.
