The European Union is a major importer of forest-risk commodities and thereby bears significant responsibility for the dangerous trend of global deforestation and forest degradation. In their presentation, Joanne Scott (Professor, European University Institute) and Gracia Marin Duran (Professor, University College London) focused on the recent legislative proposals adopted at the EU level aiming at reducing the EU’s global deforestation footprint by highlighting their benefits and major shortcomings.
