The webinar, which gathered 20 participants, opened with a welcome address from Prof Hüseyin Can Aksoy (ELI Turkish Hub Co-Chair; Bilkent University, Istanbul) and was followed by discussions led by Prof Başak Başoğlu (ELI Turkish Hub Co-Chair; Pîrî Reis University, Istanbul) and Prof Ceyda Süral Efeçınar (Pîrî Reis University, Istanbul). Prof Başak Başoğlu introduced the ‘Proposal for a Council regulation on jurisdiction, applicable law, recognition of decisions and acceptance of authentic instruments in matters of parenthood and on the creation of a European Certificate of Parenthood’ and identified the motives for and also the objectives of this proposal, discussing the possible influence in Turkish law. Subsequently, Prof Ceyda Süral Efeçınar delivered a lecture on jurisdiction, applicable law, recognition of decisions and acceptance of authentic instruments in matters of parenthood and compare the EU proposal with current Turkish law.
