ELI-UNIDROIT Model European Rules of Civil Procedure Discussed at Sorbonne

04.10.2024

On 4 October 2024, a high-level seminar brought together leading legal experts to explore French civil procedure and the ELI-UNIDROIT Model Rules.

The event offered a unique opportunity to evaluate how French civil procedure aligns with the Model Rules, among others on cooperation, proportionality, notifications, evidence, parties, the commencement of the procedure and hearings, sanctions, appeals, and class action. Participants also reflected on the future of civil procedure in Europe.

By scrutinising key aspects of the French system, participants explored pathways for reform that might lead to a more unified and efficient judicial process across Europe. The analysis highlighted the potential of the Model Rules to drive improvements and foster alignment across European legal systems, with implications for national reforms in France and beyond.

The event took place in the framework of the Procedural Law Seminar organised jointly by Research Department ‘Sorbonne - Justice and Trials’ (IRJS) of the University of Paris I Panthéon Sorbonne and the Research Center on Justice and Conflict Resolution (CRJ) of the University of Paris-Panthéon-Assas. The agenda of the event is available here.

ELI is committed to enhancing judicial cooperation in Europe. Find out more about the Rules, which were already translated to several languages, including French, here.
