The lecture was delivered by the ELI Secretary General, Vanessa Wilcox as well as Project Officers Aline Carruet and Tomasz Dudek. In addition the broad territorial reach of EU laws and the potential scope of the ELI’s impact, Wilcox outlined the structure, goals and fora that the ELI has established over the years to achieve its target outcomes. Carruet focused on the ELI’s main output: projects. Having given an overview of the various criteria for project selection, she focused on one of several current ELI projects in her portfolio – that on the Protection of Adults in International Situations – while Dudek did the same for the recently adopted Common Constitutional Traditions in Europe project. The presentations sparked much debate with students identifying examples of measures undertaken in their respective jurisdictions to help vulnerable adults, or lack thereof, and constitutional traditions that are, in their views, important.
Dudek also gave insight into various other ELI activities – Hubs and SIGs – and closed by presenting some incentives that the ELI offers young lawyers, such as internships, traineeships and the ELI Young Lawyers Award. This year the ELI Young Lawyers Award will be awarded during the ELI General Assembly and Annual Conference in Riga (Latvia).
