Piotr Machnikowski is a Professor at the University of Wrocław (Poland), where he is the Director of the Department of Civil Law and Private International Law. Piotr’s main field of research is the law of obligations (contract and tort law). He has authored several books, edited and co-authored ‘European Product Liability: An Analysis of the State of the Art in the Era of New Technologies’, co-edited and co-authored a commentary to the Polish civil code, co-authored several volumes of the ‘System Prawa Prywatnego’ (System of Private Law) series, ‘Contract Law in Poland’ and many other books. Piotr participated in international research projects such as those by the European Research Group on Existing EC Private Law and the European Group on Tort Law. He has been a member of the European Law Institute since 2011. Between 2013–2015 he was a member of the Civil Law Codification Commission of the Republic of Poland. Recently Piotr has been a member of the European Commission’s Expert Group on Liability and New Technologies. He is also a practising lawyer, working with Dentons Europe (a law firm) as counsel in the arbitration and construction disputes practice in Warsaw.
