Maria Rosaria Maugeri graduated cum laude in Law from the University of Catania with a top mark of 110/110. She earned her Ph.D. in Law from the European University Institute in Florence.
She is Full Professor of Private Law at the University of Catania, Department of Law, and has held the Jean Monnet Chair in “European Civil Law – Acquis communautaire and Harmonisation Perspectives” since 2005. She is a member of the Academic Board of the Ph.D. program in Law at the University of Pisa.
From 2021 to 2024, she serves on the Board of Directors of the Scuola Superiore della Magistratura (School for Judiciary) and was Vice-President of the Board from 2022 to 2023. Following a competitive selection, she was seconded to the Centro Linceo Interdisciplinare Beniamino Segre (Accademia dei Lincei, Rome) where she conducted research on the evolution of markets, technological innovations, and contracts (2017–2020).
She served as President of the Scuola Superiore di Catania, Mediterranean University Center, University of Catania (2020–2021). She is a member of the Bar Association and currently practices as a barrister before the Supreme Court.
She chairs the Coordinating Panel of the Banking and Financial Ombudsman (Arbitro Bancario Finanziario) in Rome (2018; 2022–2024) and also chairs the Palermo Panel of the same institution.
