The University of National and World Economy (UNWE) is the eldest, the most prestigious and the largest economic university in Bulgaria and Southeastern Europe. Its academic management body focuses its efforts on the implementation of primary UNWE objectives: to prepare the elite of the country, as it has always done ever since its foundation; to be a leader in Bulgarian higher education – an integral part of the European educational and research area and preferable place for young people willing to acquire modern education; and to provide competitive educational services.

UNWE has 8 faculties: General Economics Faculty, Finance and Accountancy Faculty, Management and Administration Faculty, Economics of Infrastructure Faculty, International Economics and Politics Faculty, Applied Informatics and Statistics Faculty, Business Faculty and Law Faculty. It has 34 Departments; several Institutes and Centers (including the Institute of Post-Graduate Studies Division (including the Center for Facultative Education and Foreign Languages School), the Institute of Economics and Politics, the Institute of Intellectual Property and Technology Transfer, the Institute of Entrepreneurship, the Center for Distance Learning; Regional Center for Distance Learning in Haskovo, Inter-University Center for Career Development).

About 500 lecturers work at UNWE, 300 of which are Professors and Associate Professors. UNWE’s Educational Quality Management System is certified by Intertek in compliance with the International Standard ISO 9001:2008.

UNWE occupies highly competitive positions. Traditionally, it has the largest number of prospective students and a record number of excellent students compared with the other universities in Bulgaria.

Since its establishment 100 years ago UNWE faculty members and alumni have been eminent scientists, government figures, prime ministers, ministers, deputies, politicians, the first Bulgarian European Commissioner after the Lisbon Treaty entered into force, the first Bulgarian Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the first Bulgarian Director General of Eurostat, ambassadors, representatives of our country in authoritative international organisations, mayors, public figures, businessmen, bankers, etc. Over the last few years, six Bulgarian Prime Ministers have been graduates of UNWE, including the first female Prime Minister.
