Building a Data Economy (7 September 2017)
Data plays a significant role in today’s global economy, leading to economic growth, job creation and further progress in innovation and technology. This panel session, chaired by former Lord Chief Justice of England and Wales, John Thomas, aimed at explaining the goal of this potential ALI-ELI Project.
In particular, Christiane Wendehorst stressed that special principles and rules with regard to the emerging data economy are crucial for businesses, which need certainty. Currently there are too many questions, for instance with regard to contracts concluded on data, as to whether they constitute licenses, sales or service contracts. Furthermore, panellists determined the feasibility of this prospective Project and its methodology.
